Bonjour Dominique,

Men at work digging foundation for reservoir! (La Citerne) ! In the area they build the reservoirs extremely deep to capitalize on vertical space. The reservoir will hold 30,000 gallons.

This is citerne number one. Our objective is to have 10,000 citerne's throughout Haiti and the various communes affected by the drought.

WeRunForAli raises funds for equipment to help build water reservoir but labor is provided by volunteers.

WeRunForAli at all times insists on self sustained alternatives and methods.

Micro to Macro Organic Agriculture Development in Ayiti

Definitions

Micro: 1. Extremely small Very small; especially 2 Involving minute quantities or variations

Macro: 1. Large-scale or capability 2. Of, involving, or intended for use with relatively large quantities or on a large scale 3. Major, significant

Organic Agriculture: Organic Agriculture is an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.
Ayiti Unified Peacefully Part I Micro to Macro Organic Agriculture Development in Ayiti

MISSION: Develop and implement means to satiate human food and fiber needs by sustaining the economic viability of organic farm operations in Ayiti. Ultimately, we are enhancing the quality of life for local farmers and society as one in Ayiti.

VISION: Micro to Macro Organic Agriculture Development in Ayiti.

Organic production is not simply the avoidance of conventional chemical inputs, nor is it the substitution of natural inputs for synthetic ones. Ayiti Organic farmers must apply techniques first used thousands of years ago, such as crop rotations and the use of composted animal manures and green manure crops, in ways that are economically sustainable in today's world. In Ayiti Organic production, overall system health will be emphasized, and the interaction of management practices will be the primary concern. Ayiti Organic producers will implement a wide range of strategies to develop and maintain biological diversity and replenish soil fertility.” Ayiti organic farmers will cultivate organic eatable plants and crops for Ayiti and the World.

OBJECTIVE: 100% Biological/Organic - 0% Manufactured Pesticide Cultivation of Plant and Animal Production practices in Ayiti Farms. Organic farming: Use of cover crops, green manures, animal manures and crop rotations to fertilize the soil in order maximize biological activity and maintain Long-Term soil health. We will use biological control, crop rotations and other techniques to manage weeds, insects and diseases. An emphasis will be placed on biodiversity of the agricultural system and the surrounding environment. Using rotational grazing and mixed forage pastures for livestock operations and alternative health care for animal wellbeing. Ensure reduction of external and off-farm inputs and ELIMINATION OF SYNTHETHIC PESTICIDES AND FERTILIZERS AND OTHER MATERIALS, SUCH AS HORMONES AND ANTIBIOTICS.

GOAL:

Assist local farmers by providing organic seeds and most importantly establishing the use of principles of ecology to magnify environmental quality and natural resource upon which the agricultural economy depends. Moreover, ensure efficient use of Ayiti lands where natural biological cycles and controls will optimize organic agricultural production. A focus on renewable resources, soil and water conservation, and management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological balance.” Hence, We Run For Ali will guarantee the Transition to Organic Production to preserve Life.

Why

Organic agriculture will contribute to ecologically sustainable, socio-economic development, especially in a poor country like Ayiti. The application of organic principles enables employment of local resources; therefore, it is cost-effective. Local and international markets for organic products show tremendous growth prospects and offer creative producers, small farmers and exporters excellent opportunities to improve their income and living conditions. We Run For Ali {Ayiti United Peacefully - Part I - Micro to Macro Organic Agriculture Development in Ayiti} is highly concerned with eliminating the use of chemical pesticides in Ayiti farms in order to avoid serious long term side effects such as soil compaction, soil erosion, and declines in overall soil fertility, along with health concerns about toxic chemicals entering the food supply. According to a recent study in Science Digest, organic best management practices shows an average yield only 13% less than conventional. In the world's poorer nations where most of the world's hungry live, and where conventional agriculture's expensive inputs are not affordable by the majority of farmers, adopting organic management actually increases yields 93% on average, and could be an important part of increased food security. United Peacefully, Ayiti Farms and small farmers will benefit from Organic agriculture because it combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved. As the global population increases and demand for food increases so does the need to cultivate organically.

HOW:

Working with Ayiti farms and small farmers, We Run For Ali will finance organic crops while assuring social and economic growth through distribution, ultimately increasing production. United Peacefully, we can move from Micro to Macro Organic Agricultural Growth in Ayiti.

Organic farming systems and methods will be studied and selected based on available land and environment. What grows where and how it is grown is a matter of choice. The most important factors for an individual site are sun, air, soil, nutrients, and water. Of the five, water and soil quality and quantity are most amenable to human intervention through time and labor. Unified Peacefully Ayiti Organic farmers will ensure organic cultivation throughout Ayiti.

There are several organic farming systems. Biodynamic farming is a comprehensive approach, with its own international governing body. The Do Nothing Farming method focuses on a minimum of mechanical cultivation and labor for grain crops. French intensive and biointensive, methods are well-suited to organic principles. Other examples of techniques are holistic management, permaculture, SRI and no-till farming (the last two which may be implemented in conventional or organic systems.

Ayiti Organic farmers will implement principal methods of organic farming which include crop rotation, green manures and compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation. These measures use the natural environment to enhance agricultural productivity: legumes are planted to fix nitrogen into the soil, natural insect predators are encouraged, crops are rotated to confuse pests and renew soil, and natural materials such as potassium bicarbonate and mulches are used to control disease and weeds. Hardier plants are generated through plant breeding rather than genetic engineering. Healthy food for a Healthier Nation!
